Re-Emerged Styles - The Benita's are back.

I have enjoyed getting all the style request emails that customers have been sending us. It’s so good to know what garments over the past 21 years have remained people’s favourites. As I said in my first journal for 2024, when enough people request certain styles and I see that style fitting into one of the collections, we will bring back past classic garments. That’s why the Cleo pants returned which we have heard have made many people happy.

Another style from a similar era to the Cleo pants were the Benita’s, a knit pant style that we made in many versions from  2010-2016.

I remember creating these, playing around on my favourite sewing machine (the coverstitch) swapping thread colours, adding looper threads and seeing what decorative trims I could make. I wanted the Benita’s to be a knit pant, not a tight fitting legging. I wanted them to be a loose and slouchy fit, especially around the bottom half of the leg where the decorative panels are. That way when you layer them under a dress you get this bunched detail, I think it looks awesome.

The Benita’s are perfect to add to many outfits and I’ve styled heaps of looks with them in past shoots. I went through old collection images to find some pics to use temporarily online as we haven’t done a photoshoot with them. I had to crop in on them as we don’t have any of the other garments and I didn’t want to mislead with things you can’t have!

So the Benita’s and the Cleo’s have become part of my selection of bamboo styles that I plan to make available for the next few years. They can be cut together as the Benita’s pattern pieces can fit down the sides of the Cleo, which uses that off cut. That is why the Benita’s are only available in the same heavier weight black bamboo jersey, the same as the plain black Cleo’s.

I look forward to styling the Benita’s in the next RANT collection, especially with the Nancy dress, but that’s a couple of months away…
