Our Top 5 Sustainable Australian made gifts
•Posted on November 19 2021
This year we have expanded our offering of gifts, all from people who also create beautiful Australian made things that align with our ethos.
Here are some suggestions for your Xmas gift shopping that are available now from our online store.
1) Australian Made Linen Tea Towels
The Trudy Rice selection come gift boxed and make great gifts for anyone. They can be used as Tea Towels, hung as art or used as part of a table setting, or anything else you can think of (see previous journal for details about these) plus they are made in Melbourne
We also have a couple of tea towel designs from Studio Nikulinsky featuring a selection of Australian native flora which have matching journals and notebooks. You can create nice gift bundles with matching linen tea towels and stationery.
Our newest pouches are all floral designs that are hand drawn then screenprinted by Irena & Alen, the guys at One Thousand Lines in their home studio in Adelaide. They sew them in house too, with the exterior fabric a heavy weight 55% hemp 45% organic cotton, the lining fabric in organic cotton and the zipper is a YKK brass one. These are handy for a multitude of things, I use mine to pop essentials in.
This year two of the RANT collections featured handy little bags which we call pouches. They are designed to carry your phone so you always have it to check in, take a call or photo, but also you can add a couple of other things like sunnies and keys. This way you always have your essentials on you. I designed these to be decorative, not bulky and to become part of your outfit.
The Sapling pouch (above pic) is a gutsy denim with a beautiful digital print on the front. I make these in-house and pre-wash them in rainwater.
The Garnish pouches (shown below) are all individually decorated by my friend Mike Griffin in his home studio in Brisbane. The Garnish Pouches come in 3 variations and all are lined with a slinky feeling viscose fabric that was an off-cut from the Detour dress. In fact all the assorted fabrics and trims used in these were making use of great fabrics that were too small to use in production. Lots of time is spent to make use of them, but nothing goes to waste this way.
3) Scarves Galore, All Australian Made
We have a great selection of Australian made scarves to choose from and they make great gifts. We have printed silks and silk/cotton ones and some plain silk cotton scarves that have textured cotton/metal fabric ends. Scarves can be worn so many ways and add detail and colour to an outfit. We do also have a range of merino scarves too (Australian ethical merino)if you're wanting your scarf for warmth as well as look.
4) Yes I am going to dare to suggest socks!
I know socks and undies are probably not high on many people's lists of Xmas gifts to receive, but these unisex Australian made striped bamboo socks are in a different league. We had these fun striped colour combinations custom made for us, and not only are they great to look at but they are incredibly silky and soft.
5) Notebooks and Journals, all featuring original art
Check out our Stationery selection. Journals, notebooks, book marks and Aroma Bloqs all locally made using recycled paper. All unique and beautiful because they feature original art of Australian Flora also.
Everything you see on our website is Australian made by small businesses. So purchasing from us means you are supporting the local industry of makers, artists, printers and all the other people along the way. So when buying gifts this Xmas, buy less, choose well and shop for Australian made.
Cheers,
Sarah
