Sleepwear- Time to rethink what sleepwear actually is.
•Posted on January 22 2025
My personal selection of sleepwear is made up of old Bestowed garments, organic cotton dresses & PJ sets made up from comfy tops and pants. If you're like me and don't see yourself wearing teddy bear prints or Nanna florals, then why not rethink what sleepwear actually is, as simply just garments to sleep in. I require soft comfy things, almost always cotton as I like the feel of cotton fabric against my skin.
We have had a few customers lately buying our Bestowed Rose dress (pictured above & below) as a nightie. An email from one customer said that she looked at Peter Alexander and department stores for a new nightie and didn't like any of them. She found our dresses were actually cheaper than those on offer, even though the others are made cheaply off shore and not in beautiful organic cotton like ours.
For example most nightdresses on the Peter Alexander website when I looked today were priced between $89 - $119. In comparison the Rose dress above was $109 at full price and at the moment is reduced to $70. The Rose dress also comes in a different print in two colour options and are reduced to $79 (see pic below of the blackberry & dill green colourways).
Each spring I reassess my selection of sleepwear. I look at my Bestowed organic cotton dresses and decide which if any are looking a little washed out and ready to be put in the designated sleepwear pile. Some of them may be 7-10 years old, really soft and comfy but not really 'good enough' to wear out to lunch. They are perfect for sleeping in though as our Bestowed organic cotton fabric is already soft but gets even softer with age. This way you get to enjoy your favourite pieces for even longer with a new purpose.
As part of my sleepwear selection I have made a PJ set by combining some Dayvan pants with a Nasturtium top. This combo is so cool to wear and super comfy.
When you choose our cotton clothes as sleepwear, either buying them for that purpose or doing the wardrobe reallocating of older garments, you have great looking outfits that you can answer the door in or lounge around in without feeling daggy. No one ever said you have to sleep in designated 'sleepwear' and that you have to have separate garments for 'normal' use, it's just been marketed to us like that, so have a fresh look at your wardrobe and see if you want to repurpose an item or two.
